That's because it's a Japanese ship which characteristically had tall superstructures - American ships did not. :)

well, Emperor basically gave me freedom to rearrange the design so that's the second WIP for CB-08:
[ img ]
main gun turrets are now slighty bigger (after all they, each, house three 14-inch guns, wich are bigger than the 12-inch sported by the Alaskas), the hull is roughly 10 meters longer and 2 meters beamier compared to the Alaska in order to hold the extra 5-inch mounts and the 14-inch turrets; superstructure is now as tall as the Alaska's (actually even 6 inches lower) and i also reverted back to the original funnel.

for what's worth, springsharp says she has the same range as CB-01 and can sustain the same 33-knots top speed, she displaces 34.692 Tons standard and 40.368 at full load, armour Values are the same as Alaska except for main guns (turret fron tickness at 15-inches), barbettes (14-inches) and Conning Tower (14-inches); also it was possible to give CB-08 a 2-inch torpedo bulkhead, thus improving underwater protection.

Well, yeah.

You've just designed an under-gunned and armored North Carolina (the original North Carolina design was 4*3 14" instead of the 3*3 16" they got built with).

While this is so, North Carolina sure wasn't a 33 knot boat.

I really enjoy the AU thread "Kriegsmarine 1946", and recently it got me thinking, why not make an similar thread for the IJN? Here are the first two ships, ideas I got from a website I saved pics from YEARS ago. this is an open thread...anyone can post ships!

I just enjoyed reading your thread, too. Keep on with it!

Whoo! First post!

I just wanna say that this whole thread was amazing.
All of these ship designs just rekindle the naval warfare nut within me. :D

However, I've noticed that some of the images earlier in the thread are no longer available (cursed Photobucket).
I assume that it won't be possible to retrieve those images?

I have the pics, but I'm probably not going to repost them until I rework some things.
