So... My second Shipbucket production so far! I will continue working on the other ones, but they can wait.
This time it's a railferry, some information about it is to be found below. It is still a bit raw, but before I am going to do the shading on it, I would like to know what you guys think!

Storyline:

1900: Rijkee & Co. (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) got an order to build a new rail ferry, to maintain the railferry services between Enkhuizen and Stavoren. The Enkhuizen II (originally ordered as the ENKHUIZEN) was able to carry 929 tons of rail vehicles, instead of the 125 tons on the Enkhuizen I, enabling it to sometimes carry Locomotives across the Zuiderzee. The muscles of the ship were 2 triple-heated boilers (Alblasserdamse Machinefabriek, Alblasserdam) and 2 compound steam engines (Firma Lohnis & Co., Rotterdam), producing 400 bhp each.

18-12-1901: The Enkhuizen II had her Maiden Voyage
01-04-1936: Railferry canceled, Enkhuizen II taken out of service
1937: The Enkhuizen II was converted for salvaging on the Lutine. http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?912
193?: Unknown; probably sold to a Belgian company.

Once I finish some train wagons, I will include them in the drawing ;)

Too black.
Use a very dark gray where black is used. You can see on the hulls of merchant ships posted here, for example.
The color issue aside it is a nice drawing, of an interesting ship.

So a bit more like this...?
I don't think I should go much lighter, since the ship itself was pitch black.

Also, I added a little bit of red [rust] on the funnels.

I'd say it's still too black, but otherwise a fantastic work. :)

Yes she shall be black, but sometimes we have to bend the colors a bit. for it's nice to see the details, now it's to dark to see details.

But then... What details? Every detail on the hull I know of is visible; even if I turn down the brightness to its lowest.

I must say - in my opinion - the choice of dark grey is spot on to illustrate the black hull. I fully agree with HugTugTheTug that details are visible. ;)
BTW, very nice drawing :D

Yes this is more like it.
One thing to point out is, that we don't show rust or damage to the ships drawn

That's true, I know. I just thought the hint of red in it made a nice touch, so I explained it with rust. Just try to accept it as a pre-shading.

And another Update!
After studying old photographs, I discovered that the vessel's sides are nearly flat, which made my job a lot easier than I had expected.
Also, I adapted the colour of the funnel and superstructure; getting rid of the rusty look.

Please do tell me what you think is wrong :D (really, no sarcasm)
