And then there is the V-2. A weapon so devestating they said it was better to let it fly and detonate where ever it landed than shoot it down, it was safer for everyone.

I have read that one particularly enthusiastic Spitfire pilot, whilst on a "rhubarb" mission, attempted to do just that to a V-2 in the process of launch. World's first ABM?

They could shoot down a V-2, the issue was that the total tonnage of AAA needed to do so would generate a greater mass of explosives falling back to earth as dud rounds than in the V-2 itself.

Whitch is why it was better to do nothing at all. The V-2s were very ineffective weapons, doing more damage to the Germans than to the British.

Maybe he's someone of importance in the crew that got to have his own spot? Who knows. You're right though, its a damn impressive pic that does show the size of the ship well as well.
