Hello Charybis,

In the prior thread, I had discussed by wishes to draw FORRESTAL. Might I suggest that you choose another topic? CV-67 KENNEDY, perhaps?

Might I suggest first showing proof that you are actually capable of the level of artistry needed to correctly depict a USN carrier? It's a bit premature to claim one of the more massive and complicated ships to draw when you haven't actually shown us anything but a hastily removed drawing in another thread.
Hello MishoiK,

I apologise heartily for any offence, but the drawing I had was inundated with negative criticism: hence its removal.

Perhaps in the future, the moderation staff might assist a newbie with NOT being curbstomped by the veterans when they post their first designs? That would be a welcome change.

S/F TAGGER SENDS
your first design has still to be shown. what you showed us was an faulty version of an quite good drawing which you made worse, and then called improvements. if you had drawn something yourself we would have said 'good work, this and this needs modification' etc. now we could only say 'what the hell have you done with an perfectly good drawing!' that drawing was also in the real designs section, while your modifications are not real design at all. so, you did some things very wrong..... what else did you expect then people telling you you did so?

I would suggest, make an good new start, show us what you can do and post an good drawing in the beginners forum. then I, at the very least, will be helping you improve, instead of giving you bad criticism only.

(you also just misspelled the username of one of the moderators of this forum. and at least 3 others earlier. all usernames without numbers and signs, so easier to type then your own username.)

now, let's get back at the topic at hand here. who is willing to join me in the quest to draw at least one of the USN carriers in an team of max 3-4 people per ship? that seems ideal to me.

That would be best, we should probably outline a list of people and Carriers

Well said, I'm in.

I was thinking of setting up a Dropbox file that the group can share all sources and references.

I was also thinking, although I made the mistake of listing Saratoga instead of forrestal on the hnsa website, we could use the basic dimensions of the hull that are listed on the second page of the plans. As a guide, I mean.

Well done heuhen, nice start, although, I'm no expert. I think, that's what we need as a project map to guide us along.

As a side note its incredible that the whole class was in service in lest than 7 years after forrestal's keel was laid. Compare that to uk cvf project that won't be in commission until 2020!

good idea for that dropbox folder.
I would think it best to have it set up as following.
- start with class leaders. so, forrestal, kitty hawk (,Kennedy), Nimitz, Ford. ford should be started on when it is near or in commission, IMO, so that one is last on the line. these class leaders will be drawn as commissioned
- each class leader has an team on it. these teams might overlap a bit, but not too much. try to have people not working on more then 2 ships of these at the same time.
- almost every ship of the classes is different, so I suppose we will draw them all in their commissioning year and or after modification that makes it different from the lead ship.

most important for me is to have the class leaders as build in the archive. we then have an easy start for everyone doing one of the modifications, resulting in that this 'team' setup is no longer required and single persons can do it, maybe.

TJ and I both have acces to US carriers so we can use those references.

Nimitz+Improved Nimitz Class

All the Carriers I can think of that need a draw, at least 30 drawings there of not many more

I personally would like to keep it to the supercarriers for now. if people say US navy, they think of the forrestal and the nimitz, but these are not represented. I'd want these in before anything else ;) to be honest.
(the united states was drawn, but not uploaded, IIRC)

Yeah, start on the biggest lot first, before we get into the jumbled chaos of the Essex Class :P

Great list! I agree with ace, let see how we get on with Forrestal first. This is a good long term plan.

I've done a lot of work on cv-4, which I hope isn't a waste.

I also have access to a large naval collection at the library, I'm going there today, so Ill pick up any decent refs I find.

Edit: I've created a Dropbox Folder for refernces, if you PM your email addresses, I'd add you to it.

Charybdis, I'm all game, though I may be more of value as an advisor than an actual draughtman, since I only have a rather crappy 12" monitor, which doesn't let me represent shades and colors the way I want. But I'm quite knowledgable on USN carriers...
