Actually, a Spruance hull, but I think the Tico and Spruances were virtually identical in that regard.

OK, question now. the 30mm Bushmasters at the four corners. Not that pleased with the way they look there, but anything larger looks out of place as well. Leave them or can them?

Ticonderoga Class and Spruance Class have a similar hull but Tico's hull is slightly modified to comprehend the extra topweight.

It's a Spruance Hull with a 40 foot plug:

To quote The Hybrid Warship By R. D. Layman and Stephen McLaughlin
Quote:
Still another Spruance-based VTOL design bore a strong resemblance to HMS Invincible and was intended to provide the advantages of STOL operations. Proposed by Commander Ronald J Ghiradella, US Naval Reserve, it featured a basic Spruance hull lengthened to 606ft overall; the gas turbine uptakes are trunked to starboard where an island superstructure is located, making room for a 470ft flight deck angling to port. Forward, there are conventional weapons: a 5in gun and Harpoon anti-ship missile canisters, with 30mm guns sited on each quarter to provide close-in AA defence, and a Basic Point Defense Missile System is located aft of the island. There is a long, narrow lift (62ft by 26ft) aft of the island. Ghiradella foresees two hangar decks, the main one on the original main deck, with a lower hangar deck extending from the lift aft to the stern. In spite of the fact that the lift is too narrow to handle Harriers, Ghiradella gives the aircraft complement as twelve 'medium-sized' helicopters and four 'Harrier-type' aircraft.

If it is supposed to be 606', then the drawing by Shiplover is way too short, about 90 pixels short of that. I also checked and it is 8 pixels shorter than the regular Spruance drawings.

hnh. Well, since this is for my AU, I could leave it "as is" and just get on with it -or- I could try and do the expansion, which may involve a complete redraw. Not sure I want to get that involved in this. Hell, the reason I chose this design was I figured it would be a quick and safe way to get an interesting ship into my inventory, not being satisfied with what I had representing the Buccaneer Class previously which was basically the Spanish Dedalo. Too outdated for what I wanted.

Now this one is becoming a controversy. I am starting to wonder if there is a single solitary ship I will ever do here which will not become the subject of debate on drawing styles, why my ideas are crap, and acrimonious argument? yeesh. OK, maybe a bit over the top, but it does seem that way sometimes. ;)

So which way do I flip? Keep it as is? Try and redraw it to the correct length? Open a can of tuna and just say the heck with it and have a sandwich instead?

I am sorry if I have come off as a pain, I was simply trying to provide you with source documents to work off of.

Splendid, thank you. :)

And as a side note...

Red Tails was fantastic! I know, I know, its Air Force, and we're Navy here, but it was very well done.

Thanks!!! I was going to need something to watch while my wife goes and sees Danny Radcliffe's rendition of a Corvette Summer career-ender.
Good to know my first pick is going to be the right one!

BTW, the Redtails were NOT USAF- they were ALL ARMY... HOOAH!!!

Not a pain. I was just a little frustrated at the moment at the prospect of having to start from scratch.

And unlike Fly Boys they also got the German aircraft right, late series Gustavs. The 262's and B-17's CG sequences were well done too. I was kinda disappointed, though, that they didn't show any B-24's since those were the primary types flying out of Italy to the Ploesti oil fields that the 332nd escorted frequently. But, if thats all I was disappointed in, then I call it a win. Very entertaining movie.

(and yeah, having been army myself, I know they were AAF. ;) )

One thing you might get a good giggle about is during the sequence where they showed them strafing a German Torpedo Boat and claiming to have sunk it, the CG people didn't quite know what ship to use apparently, because the ex-Italian TB looked suspiciously like the Schleswig-Holstein. (they called it a destroyer, but thats typical for pilots. Just look at all the "battleships" and Carriers" sunk during the Pacific War that turned out to be, well, not them.)

ok, a few tweaks made with updated drawings of stuff.

I think I'll just leave the length "as is" as well, since this isn't supposed to be a clone, but something for an AU. Eventually I may try my hand at doing a proper length version of this never-built design though.
