The A290 was an Australian developed radar, possibly taken as a variant of the SC1. Entered service 1944-45, as an air search radar with surface search capability. Wholly Australian made, including components. Despite being similar to the SC1, the shape and proportions differed as well as motor and spindles used. The SC1 had a 2-3deg inclination from vertical as well, the A290 was mounted vertical. The Yagi antennae (A290 RDF) was developed possibly as a Type 286 variant and arrived separately to the same design as the Canadian SW1C antennae but no link as their development exists and likely represents convergent design.
