History

The C 11 was the first US steam catapult, based on the British BXS-1 Catapult but using higher steam conditions and slightly longer. The first was installed on the SCB-27C conversion of Hancock in May 1954.

Specifications:

  • C-11: 39000 pounds at 156 mph (136 knots) or 70000 pounds at 124 mph (107.5 knots) in 211 feet
  • C-11-1: 39000 pounds at 156 mph (136 knots) or 70000 pounds at 124 mph (107.5 knots) in 211 feet
  • C-11-2: unknown in 150 feet.

Part description

The part shows the top view of the component. As these were recessed in the deck, they are not visible in the sideview. Arrangements of holdback area and jet blast deflector may change depending on timeframe of the installation and intended airwing.
