History

The Mk 87 FCS (Fire Control System) was proposed for the Patrol frigate, which became the FFG-7 Class, and the system was tested for a few years on the 2 standard-missile armed Asheville class gunboats, Ready and Antelope. The Mk 87 FCS was an licensed version of the Signaal M22 fire control system.

The Mk 87 FCS uses a track-while-scan radar fitted in an combined antenna system (CAS), sometimes combined with an additional STIR tracker/illuminator.

Part description

As the fire control system itself (the computers) are not visible in a shipbucket drawing, the part image on this page shows a compilation of the parts directly connected to this fire control system. These can also be found on their own pages. More views of the STIR antenna can be found at Mk 54 STIR and more views of the CAS can be found at Signaal M20 / WM20 series
